Welcome to NZCA&RN!

The New Zealand Collaborative Action and Research Network was formed in May 2009 at an inaugural symposium at the University of Canterbury, with the CARN sponsorship by the Universities of Canterbury, Waikato, and Otago. NZCA&RN is the New Zealand hub of the international Collaborative Action Research Network (CARN) and in December, 2009 started to become a SIG of the New Zealand Association for Research in Education (NZARE).

The picture above emphasises the metaphor we chose at our first symposium - that of a braided river to communicate the many forms of collaborative action and research networking in which both action research and kaupapa Māori research are braids.

We invite you to become a member of this this NZCA&RN Ning and help us create a space where we can communicate, collaborate, share ideas and support collaborative action and research in New Zealand. We are also developing our WikiEducator NZCA&RN site.

Feel free to start a discussion in the forum below, leave a comment or post in the blog, upload photos or communicate with other members - just click on the Members tab and leave a message.

Participatory action research, partnership, disability and ethics

I am interested in the ways PAR can be both means and end of partnership with disabled students and their family members.

In NZ special education and inclusive education policies, partnership with parents is a policy aim, but rarely experienced by parents. Some of our recent projects have found ways of thinking about teaching, learning, curriculum and assessment that both support and depend upon partnership (see the resource…

NZCAandRN forms SIG at NZARE conference in November and finds common interests

At the New Zealand Association for Research in Education (NZARE) annual conference in 2009 we also established NZCAandRN as an NZARE SIG and held our first SIG meeting there. The event permitted us to brainstorm themes of common interests and those notes will be used to inform our next meeting in February 2010.

In addition, a NZCAandRN symposium that described our formation and gave members a platform to share the braided view. We will add the papers to this Ning too as… Continue
